Twins who run a hair salon in a small California town are the repository of their small town's secrets as well as their own. Hometown outcast turned Hollywood star makes them in high demand when she has her hair done there for her wedding. Each bride who comes through has their own secrets and obsessions. Four generations of their family unwind their own secrets along with most of the town( why Grandfather shot on his honeymoon, Mother & Rick musician father why is he back , cinnamon steadfastly refusing to name her daughter's father and ginger-will she leave to go to college or not?) When one bride takes an explosive move on her special day. A quirky, Funny, frustrating, human, messy yet loving family.-figure out with them why they do the things they do. Do it up salon rules: we never ever slap the bride. What is said at do it up stays at do it up. P245. I might not believe in fairytales endings, but I did believe the importance of these ceremonies and what they represented. I understood why a woman and a man would feel compelled to stand in front of your friends, your family, and their community and declare themselves a united front against the world. I understood that it also might not mean anything when a man and a woman didn't make that declaration in front of everyone; sometimes what happened between two people was enough.. I understood that making that public commitment meant nothing without the private commitment .

This was a book that I started reading at lunch while I was at work, and when I came home I could not put it down. I literally stayed up until 12:30 am to finish reading this tale. At first I thought a lot of the plot lines that were happening to Ginger and Cinnamon were very easy to decipher - namely who was Sage's (Cinnamon's daughter) dad (EASY ONE!) But then there were the plot twists and turns to other not-so-main characters that I never saw coming, and it was that reason that the story stayed so fresh. I will definitely be trying other Eileen Rendahl books after reading this one. And PS - not your typical wedding chick lit, so don't let the title and the cover fool you!
