Review # 1 was written on 2007-12-22 00:00:00 Kyle Crow Chief I read this book because I'm teaching Campaign Persuasion this semester. I found it to be the perfect political communication textbook for undergraduates, but I also think it's a great text for anyone analyzing the current presidential campaigns. Like the back of the book explains, Tuman covers, 1) all forms of campaign speech and oratory, 2) the rhetorical dimensions of campaign debates, and 3) candidate/campaign interaction with mass media. It's clearly written with lots of great examples from contemporary campaigns. Now let's just hope my students enjoy it as much as I did! |
Review # 2 was written on 2021-01-27 00:00:00 Pascal Demers Tuman not only explains the different types of speeches frequently used, but gives examples of when they should be used. This book is not only helpful for those interested in writing campaign speeches, but anyone who is writing on behalf of a company, PR, marketing, non-profits, or for a media outlet. Tuman makes it easy for a political science or communication studies novice to quickly identify important parts of a speech. |
