Review # 1 was written on 2017-08-16 00:00:00 James Saito This was written well, interesting, engaging, just a satisfying collection of short stories. Will read aloud to my children some day. |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-07-27 00:00:00 Joe Mckenzie Charming. Struck a nostalgic chord for the mythologized New England of yore. Even though the stories are straightforward, they were still able to surprise me through language and storytelling devices. No need to be nervous about reading Hawthorne if the only experience you have with him is high school assignments. His prose is flowery but ultimately descriptive. I wish 'The Great Carbuncle' was given the same treatment as 'The Great Stone Face' because I found it to be the most compelling of the tales. |
