My son and I are very fond of the illustrations in Usborne board books. We've already read ABC and Things That Go, and this one proved equally enjoyable. There's a page for each number from 1 to 10 with drawings of animals to represent that number. But after looking more closely, I realized each page also has a second more subtle illustration of the number. For example, if "ten butterflies" are shown the larger ones also have ten spots on their wings. So you can use these details to practice counting and reinforce the numbers, or challenge an older toddler to look for them. The objects drawn on each page also have some slight differences so that you can talk about "big" vs. "small" and other distinctions.
