Review # 1 was written on 2017-03-14 00:00:00 Benjamin Wallace Someone found this book and gave it to me - which is fine, because I'm glad I didn't pay for it. Obviously, it's hard to pack 2000 years of church history into 200 pages, but when you spend 50 of those pages going on and on about (then) current issues, there's not much you can accomplish. The text is written from an evangelical, congregational, holiness Protestant perspective, and that's obvious without reading the author's bio. Most of the book seemed to be paragraph lists of people, dates, and places. Of course, that's the structure of history, but the history of the church has a story arc that is impossible to see in this work. However, Vos even makes those elements less worthy as he spends time on minutia that doesn't contribute to the readers' understanding of what happened, when, by whom, and why. Instead, pick up Julio Gonzales' or Darmaid McCulliough's church history books. Yes, they are a lot longer, but you'll at least understand and enjoy it.

Review # 2 was written on 2018-08-30 00:00:00 Joby Mathews This was a very good book. It was an old book used as a text book for Moody Bible Institute. I found it simple and yet thorough. Very helpful as just a general read for introduction and simple overview. Not as detailed as you might like but at times I found it had more detail than other "comprehensive" books. Recommended
