It's difficult to write a travel guide that will satisfy all travelers' needs! For my March 2010 trip, I'd already sorted out my accommodation through online research so could have done without that section, and since I'm not a foodie, I wasn't terribly interested in the restaurant recommendations. What I did find extremely useful were the maps and the list of sights to see, some of which I would never have stumbled upon on my own! In Edinburgh, these included: * The Writers' Museum * The Museum of Childhood (very quirky) * The National Library of Scotland (which includes an awesome visual mini-museum of famous authors) * Scottish Parliament (I didn't know you could go in!) * The Queen's Gallery (breathtaking Antarctica photo exhibition) Some of the prices were a bit out of date, but the hours were mostly correct, and I happily carried the book everywhere with me, even though I only visited Edinburgh, which is just one chapter in the book. I'd love to go back someday to the highlands and delve into the other chapters. (Given the limited time for my trip, this guide helped me settle on Edinburgh as the focus, rather than, say, Glasgow -- and it was definitely the right decision!) Oh, and I did eat extremely well based on the restaurant recommendations -- I highly recommend David Bann (vegetarian) and the World's End Pub (they really DO have the best fish 'n' chips in Edinburgh!).

This book was given to me as a gift. Unfortunately, it really doesn't have enough information on the things I really wanted information on. Some of the places I was researching in Scotland weren't even included in the guide. The guide does list websites for main attractions which is helpful but I could have found those through google for free.
