This book has great photography along with a very attractive and useful layout with sections guiding the reader to venues, albums, and musicians to look for. The articles are written by well-informed and intelligent writers who have gone off the beaten path to discover some of the world's best music. But something is certainly missing... Hmmm... I don't know, maybe... SEATTLE. Geesh. I mean, come on! There's quite a music scene here with frequent independent acts. You can't just leave Seattle off the map! If not Seattle, then at least include Portland. I know I'm biased, but still. Nonetheless, it was quite a little travel guide with the insider's scoop on Argentina's Cumbia, Dublin's celtic punk, the Chicago jazz scene, techno in Berlin, Australia's art rock, and the craze for classical in Turkey. And it was intriguing learning about the evolution of chanson in Russia prior to and following Stalin's crushing dictatorial reign, as well as the musical blend of East meets West in the colorful world of Indipop. Pick it up if you're an audiophile, a traveler, and/or you're looking for something new to listen to.

Some cool photos and tidbits, but not much of a narrative or anything. I wish the "now" photos were in color.
