Review # 1 was written on 2014-02-09 00:00:00 Thomas Balaskas Definitely one of those few books I found hard to put down. The author does a great job at taking you on a journey with him through the holy sanctuaries. In this book, he documents his visits to Madinah as well as his experiences performing the Hajj. He also adds many historical accounts relating to the sanctuaries that many of us probably would've never known if we hadn't picked up this book. From life under the Ottomans, to the age old rituals which have unfortunately faded way, this book will either have you yearning to be back or yearning to finally perform the journey. The text not only reads as a travelogue, but also includes superb rulings and reasonings (inc. references) relating to many issues of concern and controversy in the modern Islamic age.

Review # 2 was written on 2014-03-31 00:00:00 Sheila Otis أعجبني الحقيقة الكتاب، واللي اكثثر منه تفكير الكاتب. الصراحة صرت احب اقرأ للمسلمين الغير عرب أكثر. فهو زي ماقال المسلمين الاوربيين و الامريكيين ما يعطون دماء جديدة للاسلام فحسب ، لكنهم ما يخافون من طرح شكوكهم وفضولهم. والاجمل انهم ينظرون للاسلام نظرة جميلة :) كنت متوقعة الكتاب يتكلم عن رحلة مكة فقط. وهذا اللي خلاني متوقعته شيء مركز للحج، لاني بهالفترة ادور كتب مميزة هالنوع. لكن تفاجئت انو الفصل الاول مخصص فقط للحج كأحد اركان الاسلام الخمسة. وباقي الكتاب فيها فصول عن بقية اركان الاسلام وفصول لمعاني اسلامية اخرى. الترجمة حسيت فيها ضعف في مرات كثيرة. لكن لازم ما انكر انو اسوب الكتاب حلوة وسهل، لدرجة خلصت اكثر من 150 صفحة في اقل من 3 ساعات. الكتاب برضو تناول حال المسلمين على وجه الخصوص في المانيا. وهالشيء في نظري أضعف هدف الكتاب ، يمكن عشان انا كنت متوقعته فقط عن الحج. لذلك حسيت انو من الافضل فصل مثل هالمواضيع في كتاب عشان ما يحصل لبس للي بيشتري الكتاب من اسمه عشان كذا نقصت نجمة ، والنجمة الثانية اللي نقصتها هو بسبب الترجمة اللي مممكن تكون افضل. عدا هذا انا من معجبين فكر الدكتور مراد.
