A visual glimps of the history of an old New England town. The wealth of photos of immigrant laborers who's intentions were to work here until they could go back to their country of origin (Russia, Poland, France, Italy, Canada or England) with a handsome bank account. The pictures show a time when loggers, ice cutters, blacksmiths and oilers were all either trades or semiskilled professions. A time when clothing was made of cotton, wool or hemp. Transportation was usually trolley, train, horse, oxen or bicycle. Snow was rolled into the unpaved streets and lakes were used a summer retreats. Basically a limited view of New England from the late 1800's thru the 1950's. A book that has enormous value to current day residents. An alternative title could have been "The Maturing of a Country, Westford.

A wonderful pictorial history of Lakewood/Steilacoom. I especially appreciate that the authors have a couple of call-outs for donations: if you know history of the area, contact so-and-so, or if you have photos, contact such-and-such. As someone who collects that type of stuff for two historical groups, I enjoyed how they worked in those asks.
