Vivid depiction, HISTORIES, of those trying to escape slavery, and the citizenry who either assisted them, or worked for their capture and return to bondage. Makes clear, like nothing else I've read, the exact role of the Fugitive Slave Law as both a victory for the Slave Labor system of the U.S., and an iron prod and harbinger of the Civil War that inevitably followed.

There isn't much in the way of commentary or analysis. interesting to skim over some of them and see what sorts of things occurred.
