This proved to be an excellent overview of the first women who entered the psychoanalysis field and their accomplishments, pitfalls and, most of all, their pioneering spirits which spanned the early to mid 1900's and beyond . The book contains four sections; covering the work of Helene Deutsch, Karen Horney, Anna Freud, and Melanie Klein. Also included were their various differing views regarding analysis over the years as well as their similarities. Most of all the tenacity of each of these women in light of an era that prohibited women from entering Universities came through loud and clear. Much of their work is still being referred to and utilized today. This was not difficult reading and recommended for those studying the field, wish to study or just have an interest.

this extremely interesting book was written by a psychiatrist and examines the psychology and emotional experience of motherhood. i really like how she explores the mother-child relationship as it pertains to the experience of becoming a mother. in other words, the quality of your relationship with your own mom affects your perception of yourself as a mother. women who have troubled relationships with their own mothers tend to feel much more inept, frustrated, and overwhelmed. also, having a baby can bring to the surface lots of old issues stemming from one's own infancy- especially in regards to how you & your mother related to one another. fascinating.
