Review # 1 was written on 2012-03-24 00:00:00 Chris Walters This takes the nursery rhyme "Diddle diddle dumpling, my son John...." as its inspiration and presents a poem with the same pattern for each of the narrator's many other children. Each poem is illustrated with a full page multicolored woodcut print. My copy of this book is a bit old and I wonder if a newer copy would be even more vibrant. I can see using this as a tie-in with a Mother Goose unit, or as a poetry writing activity in which children try to imitate the form used here. |
Review # 2 was written on 2009-06-14 00:00:00 Gabriel Rieger This is a fun book of nursery rhymes that all follow the same pattern. A son or daughter is highlighted with something they are doing. The woodcut pictures are cartoonish and colorful - our girls just loved the rhymes in this book. With 15 verses in the book, they kept saying, "Wow, he must've had a lot of children!" |
