I had bought this decades ago, around 25-30 years ago. Some books are to be read in right time, some even are never to be read by the buyer but only by their relatives. This book deserves five stars because it is authentic. Andreev (who wrote this book through his life agonies, exiled by the Stalinist regime for his ideas) is quite genuine. It is clear that he belongs to the stream of mystic Russian writers, but he is unique. Certainly his spiritual and mystical experiences led him to writing this book. This book cannot possibly be the result of theoretical approach, but only authentic mystic experience. This does not necessarily mean that this mystic experience is 100% correct, or that it is correct on all issues analyzed. But the vibration arising from it is pure. I would say that purity deeply characterizes Andreev. He is a pure soul. Some souls approach the Truth through knowledge/gnosis first, then attain purity of heart. Some souls attain it through purity of heart first, then approach gnosis. Andreev belongs to the second category. In some issues this work reminds me of some concepts also approached by Rudolf Steiner: The theme of spiritual entities guiding national groups or various other groups. Steiner is far more scientific and analytical, but Andreev conveys the topic excellently. In my view this is also related to Archetypes behind world events, or Platonic Ideas. One could apply some of the ideas developed in this book for further understanding of some world and historical events. Andreev wrote this with the blood of his soul.

The book was written during the darkest years of the horrifying Stalin regime that was marked by parents telling on their children, friends telling on their friends, sacrificed human blood steaming down the altar of the almighty statehood and all-embracing fear paralizing the minds of millions of people. Daniil Andreev was sentenced, if I rememeber right, to 15 years of maximum security prison for his literary works, because they were so humane, so anti-government, so freedom-seeking that it couldn't have been otherwise. And it's really a miracle that the Rose of the World survived until today. Actually, it did not survive, it was destroyed and the author, while being very sick, restored it completely out of memory very shortly before his death, after he was released from prison. His wife later said that "it seemed as if while he was working to restore the book, some angel was holding him in his hands. But right after Daniil finished, the angel let go of him, and he started getting weaker each day". The most interesting idea that I found in this book: When, in creating something, you seek glory for yourself, this makes you smaller, but if you do it for the sake of other people, it brings out the divine in your human nature and elevates you.
