Review # 1 was written on 2019-03-13 00:00:00 Judson Siegel I have become quite interested in the Situational Leadership model and recently read both “Leadership and the One Minute Manager: Increasing Effectiveness Through Situational Leadership” and “Management of organizational behavior”, both excellent sources for learning this model. As I read them, I thought the concepts must also apply to parenting, and after a quick search, found that, sure enough, there was a book titled “Situational Parenting.” However, I was somewhat disappointed in this book because it is a very simple recasting of the situational leadership model for parenting; there is nothing new to learn from this book that isn’t immediately obvious from the leadership model. While I didn’t get much from this book and highly recommend the other leadership books from the same authors, this may be useful for those who have not been introduced to Situational Leadership or who may not connect with the principles being displayed in a management/organizational setting. |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-04-29 00:00:00 Jim Goetz I read about half of this book on environmental psychology. It was one of the cheaper texts on the subject. It's a little out of date--the chapter on playground design didn't really discuss how injuries on playgrounds with padded materials (like woodchips/rubber) are the same as those without. I liked learning about obvious design principles, and I hadn't even though about how drapes could be a hazard to toddlers. The research didn't seem very rigorous though. |
