Review # 1 was written on 2014-03-30 00:00:00 Richard Blake Thomas A fascinating collection of interviews of ex-slaves. I was surprised how many remember their days fondly given other accounts I've read that describe horrendous lives. My theory is fading memory and more likely the mistreated ones died early. Anyway I'm glad I read this little book and recommend it.

Review # 2 was written on 2015-09-14 00:00:00 Bill Helzer A very quick read (completed on a round trip flight) that gives numerous first hand accounts of slavery, and the end of it. There are a spectrum of experiences, from being treated pretty fairly to living in hell on Earth. I found it a good companion piece to The Frederick Douglas book I finished recently.
