Review # 1 was written on 2021-03-12 00:00:00 Cassie Eb It's not without some value, but it's dated and quite … heterosexually-cisgender-centric. (Which I call out as in such a stark contrast to Rewriting the Rules: An Anti Self-Help Guide to Love, Sex and Relationships , which I recently read; this book doesn't have a single same-sex couple -- they're almost all married, and almost all pretty "vanilla" in their sexual and gender identities. But I guess this was published in 2003 so there's that?) ANYWAY -- the good: plenty of provocative and insightful statements to help someone reframe their thinking about their romantic/sexual relationship, and/or the way they "show up" in that relationship; also some well-explained exercises that are supposed to help foster/facilitate some learning and growth. Breaks sex and romance into multiple dimensions and encourages you to think about these as inter-dependent, and how you might be positive in one area but negative in another. The not-so-good: as mentioned above, if you don't fit the mold of a straight cis-gendered married couple, this one might have you feeling left out. ALSO (and this is the big one for me) -- toward the end of the book it starts to cross over into this spiritual and quasi-religious element that… doesn't sit right with me. Not that I'm saying sex can't be spiritual but the "sexual Goddess energy" stuff was a bit much.
