This book was originally issued in 1962. Re-issued in 2009 on the occasion of Lincoln's 200 year of birth. Book was a Christmas gift from Tom and Arlene - and is now one of my cherished books. The author - Ostendorf - was a gifted artist. He drew many pictures of Lincoln in scenes that could not be captured by the photography of the time. This book recreates many of those scenes, interdispered with old photos of Lincoln and places Lincoln lived or visited over the course of his life. There are 133 original drawings and 101 rare Lincoln related photos. This book is a limited special edition put out by Sangamon County, Illinois. What a treasure it is.

This book is for schooled aged kids that are in first grade or second grade. This book talks about the life of Lincoln and he ended slavery. lincoln grew up in Kentucky then later as he grew up he moved to Springfield IL. He lived in Springfield and he married the love of his live Mary. They has four sons together. After his married life Lincoln started to wonder about slavery and how they could be free. Later he signed the Emancipation Proclamation and that document freed all the slaves that were enslaved at that time. also this document ended the Civil War and John Wilkes Booth didnt like the idea that the slaves were free and the war was over. Lincoln and his wife Mary went to see a play in Fords theather and John Wilkes Booth shot and killed Lincoln. \ This book might keep the attention of a child but the pictures werent interesting and not to colorful. This was a book about someone in history so kids might not want to read it.
