Review # 1 was written on 2018-07-26 00:00:00 Raul Santos Adequate introduction to the topic; 'it is what it is': illustrated. Which is where my main grouse comes in: maps. Dinky reproductions of large scale battle maps, etc. just don't cut it for me. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-06-28 00:00:00 Aaron Bennett I have been interested in Napoleonic warfare for a long time, at least since I was an Army ROTC cadet and wrote a term paper on Napoleonic strategy and tactics for a military science class. This book gives a good overview of the Napoleonic wars and their historical and political context, but it does not go into depth on strategy or tactics, and there are insufficient maps of the battles. In fairness, a book of this breadth cannot go into detail or depth regarding any single battle. If you want an introduction or general background, this is a good book, but if you are looking for detailed battle studies, you would be well advised to read any of the numerous books about individual battles or specific combat arms during the Napoleonic campaigns. |
