I had high hopes for this book because I found the nominal topic so very interesting, i.e., what do the pronouns we choose say about the way we view the world? Unfortunately this book turned out to be nothing more than a long article about the promise of exploring that idea. The authors choose to verbosely report the incidence of use of particular pronouns rather than analyze those observations within any proposed thesis. This results in a book that is nothing more than a long description of observations without any explanatory framework.

Not a bad book, but few penetrating insights. In the author’s defense, he offers a focus on approach rather than technique. He’s a seasoned practitioner who demonstrates a solid grasp of his material (e.g., “Fundraising isn’t about asking for money. It’s about inspiring people to believe that they can make a difference—and then helping them to make it”).
