Review # 1 was written on 2015-02-27 00:00:00 Stephen Burkhart Shawn Hall's first book, "Connecting the West: Historic Railroad Stops and Stage Stations in Elko, Nevada," focuses on the Central Pacific and other railroads that early on connected Nevada to the rest of the nation. This work, "Old Heart of Nevada," is a compendeum of information about early towns and mining camps in Elko County. Both books need to be read by people curious about eastern Neavda history. I'm grateful for them as I write fictionalized accounts of life in Nevada, in the 1880s. Readers will enjoy pictures of early towns like Deeth and Halleck, and appreciate lengthier histories of Wells and Elko, including the personal stories of people who lived or still live there. Highly recommended and much appreciated. |
Review # 2 was written on 2011-05-19 00:00:00 Timothy Crane Another very good history of Elko county, Nevada. There was some repetition between this and Connecting the West, but it was not excessive, as this focused primarily on mining camps. Definitely enjoyed this one as well. |
