Review # 1 was written on 2020-05-14 00:00:00 Vivian Mckeithan Robin Walz goes into the relationship between the great pulp character of the early 20th Century 'Fantomas' and the Surrealists. Like the entire population of France, it seems every avant-garde artist had a passion for the 'adventures' of Fantomas. And Fantomas I must add is an extremely evil character. Destroys for the sake of destroying. Yet it seems his vicitims are all upper-class society people. Hmmm. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-10-04 00:00:00 Kyle Moore This is the second time I've read this book. I forgot what a dense and intricate examination it is on the literary influences of the impregnation of Surrealism. Balakian also makes clear the difference between Dada and Surrealism: "for Dada was bent on destruction, surrealism was in search of the power of creation." |
