Review # 1 was written on 2018-03-31 00:00:00 Robbin Thiner I have long worked for the firm that published this volume, so I am biased, but I think it is one of the most amazing collections of photographs taken by an African American from this period. It opens a window into the South and especially the vibrant middle-class black community of Columbia, S.C. A simply wonderful body of work that almost was lost, and will now always be with us. I am lucky to own a copy. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-02-16 00:00:00 Gilberto Reyes This is a visually breathtaking experience. My husband purchased this book at an estate sale. The photography taken by an African-American of affluent African-Americans during the 1920-1936 era. This is something that I have not seen before in the south. Most pictures are of rural poor people. If you have an opportunity to look and read this book you will be amazed. |
