A very interesting and well-written study on the connection between religion and politics when it comes to the building of temples in the Roman republic (before the time of the Late Republic when things changed). It is a study of how religion influenced politics, and how politics influenced religion - but also the interaction between the individual and the state and how their wishes could go hand in hand (and sometimes clashed...). It is also a study on how not to over-simplify trying to understand the Romans, their actions and their motives.

As a Latin Teacher I enjoyed reading this book. It provides a lot of information on the way Roman temples were commissioned, approved, and constructed. I recommend it for people interested in Roman History and Politics.
