Review # 1 was written on 2016-03-30 00:00:00 Trevor Leal I slid this unassuming volume from an overstuffed and dust smelling op-shop bookshelf. Always happy to read about writing - I bought it for a dollar without any expectations. Perhaps the 2nd best dollar I've ever spent. From the Preface: "This book is an attempt to help students to develop their own critical approaches to literature. It is an outline of the main tasks in creative writing, examined by looking over an author's shoulder, as it were, as he formulates a theme, develops a general approach, exploits the possibilities of a particular literary form, devises a suitable structure, and seeks to express the whole in a suitable style." And it does that admirably, succinctly, yet with impressive depth and a panoply of examples.
