Review # 1 was written on 2015-04-25 00:00:00 Karen Tabora This will be much more interesting to history students who already have a background in the subjects Stubbs discusses than it was to me, I think. I could follow some details, but the details of legal acts and lists of names with little introduction as to who is who were almost completely lost on me. Of course, this is an old book now, and in itself has interesting insights into Stubbs's era rather than just the ones further in the past that he lectured about. In one of his inaugural lectures, he discusses the value of primary sources - it tickles me that that lecture is now included in a book which one could treat as a primary source, if they were more interested in the late 19th Century study of history than Henry VII and the history of the Canon Law. |
