I pulled a NF RTI group and chose this as there is a lot of great crossover information between social studies and language arts. Unfortunately, the text level is lofty. I also question how the author selected certain people and events in history, and not others to discuss. Each section teases the student with tidbits of information, and then the author chose to fly off in another direction in the history of cartography.

What: This book contains information not just on how water pollution affects marine life, but also our environment. It touches on acid rain, which I believe is an aspect of water pollution that gets left out of a lot of informational texts on the subject. It also goes into how we can help lesson our impact on our water bodies. So What: I felt that this book was interesting and very relevant for children who are interested in how pollution is affecting our water systems. Now What: I think this would be a great book for a science course. I also think it's a great way to introduce children to what's going on with our water systems as well as get them motivated to do something to change how our waters are treated.
