Review # 1 was written on 2009-03-25 00:00:00 Jesse Fletcher I was as pleased with this as one can be with books read for class and research. Appreciated the brevity with which Hill outlines the important stages and persons of the Enlightenment, and I even laughed a few times at his way of revealing some details with playful irony. At just under 200 pages with pictures, paintings and marginal quotes to supplement the text, this a great springboard source for any study of the Enlightenment period. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-11-28 00:00:00 Troy Parker A fascinating look at how Christianity progressed/adapted/coped during the Enlightenment period (c. 1650-1800), as well as captivating, in-depth yet succinct bios of the intellectual luminaries of the day (although at times the author appears to get so enamored with the philosophers and deists that "The Faith" gets forgotten for several pages). |
