I read the Anderson translation of A Flea in Her Ear a few weeks ago and wasn't blown away. I suspected I might prefer the Ives translation, and overall I do. It's tighter and funnier, although I question why, in a loose translation, it was necessary to have male characters repeatedly attempt to seduce women who were saying no. It distracts from an otherwise absurd tale of infidelity and mistaken identity. No, the play isn't politically correct, but somehow the rest of the details work in the play's over-the-top setting. Yes, even the threats of violence (partially because those are written in a farcical manner). Recommended.

By the time I read this, I was tired of Ives' uncany & laudable facility with language ans with his brand of comic adaptations. This has more to do with me than with him. I'm sure I'll return to him in time. He melds rap with savvy literary skills & social commentary for the ages. He spins words into gold - a Rumplestilskin for the ages.
