Review # 1 was written on 2019-06-27 00:00:00 Eric Wild Marc Cioc looks at three international efforts in the early twentieth century to write treaties to protect wildlife. The efforts were in Africa to protect large mammals, North America to protect migratory birds, and a global effort to protect whales. It is certainly not surprising that narrow economic interests were the main impediments to meaningful agreements. What might surprise many is that the United States led treaty to protect migratory birds and that it was the most successful effort of the three that Cioc covers. The Game of Conservation is a useful primer on the complexities and difficulties of coming to terms with an international agreement on carbon emissions. |
