Review # 1 was written on 2012-03-29 00:00:00 Kevin Flowers Although this book came out over a decade ago, I found it immensely helpful in theorizing very tricky parts of my dissertation. Specifically, the individual case studies provided a medium through which I could think about the relationship between neoliberal ideology, the poor, and most relevant for me, the agencies that have emerged in the last 20 years to fill in the gaps left by a receding welfare state.

Review # 2 was written on 2008-11-26 00:00:00 Mark Hess My interest in poverty studies and bottom-up change is directly related to my reading this book. A great collection of anthropological essays on poverty.
