The Warrior Mind focuses on six moves or principles: attentive curiosity, undulation, clear intent, grappling, rolling waves, and the whirlwind. These moves are taken directly from the author's experiences in his martial arts training. The author then translates these basic principles into actions for virtually any situation from dealing with a physical confrontation through moving through fear, anxiety, and procrastination to striving towards your personal or professional goals. Essentially, The Warrior Mind teaches the reader a whole different way to look at any given situation. Often, we become frozen with the what ifs and the might happens when faced with situations in both our personal and professional lives. This unhealthy behaviour limits our potential and takes away our personal power. However, if we allow ourselves to actually view the situation or the problem and seek various solutions, we can not only get through difficult times but sometimes even manage to turn them into possibilities.

I learned so much from Jerry Van Cook. Though he writes about his experiences and mindset, attitude, gun handling, knife fighting, and praying in a scary-as-hell moment, I learned about what's possible. His words on paper opened up new space between my ears. He writes about how to respond, and not to respond, after an 'incident', law, courts, common legal misperceptions. He reminds us that what you or I say to police can and will be held against you. And he conveys all this with flinty humor, humaneness, grace, and intellect. A rare book. If you really want to wrap your head around what it takes to survive an encounter, start with this book. I can't recommend it highly enough.
