Review # 1 was written on 2010-03-25 00:00:00 Tory Ficarola Excellent read for those who want to engage in black feminist praxis and are not just anthropologist, but also geographers (such as myself). What does it mean to be a black USAmerican doing ethnography in a field that is largely white and male dominated? Can I truly be an "insider"? What about power dynamics in research and producing knowledge for the academy? This book helps to answer these questions and concerns! |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-01-03 00:00:00 Kesara Goonawardena I get the feeling Herzfeld REALLY loves himself and thinks that he is highly intelligent. He might be smart, but taking 30 pages to say something that could've been said in three is just masturbatory. The book has some fine points, but overall I would recommend the Kuper book first. p.s. Dear Mike, don't use big words if you don't know what they mean or what context to use them in. |
