Review # 2 was written on 2015-04-01 00:00:00 Beggi Palss A collection of late Tolstoy stories that contrast his personal religious beliefs with notions of justice and questions of humanity. The title story is beyond moving. Tolstoy captures a moment in Russian history, the connectedness of humanity, the frailty of ambition. This story urges the reader to question the foundation of his own reality and to reassess what is worthwhile about living. Tolstoy's approach to fiction from this period can be overbearing, but the genius is still present. |
