This is the second book we've read in the That's Good! That's Bad! series by Margery Cuyler. The first book was so inventive and humorous, but was awkward to read aloud. I decided to read this one because of the setting in Washington D.C. Our girls are familiar with all of the sites mentioned, and it was fun to see the story progress through the city. We especially liked tracing his path on the map in the back of the book. Our girls are so much older now, and they got the concept of the repetitive refrain, but it still made for an awkward read aloud. I felt like I needed to add extra words to the narrative, "Why is that good?" or "Why is that bad?" just to keep the flow of the book going smoothly. The illustrations are terrific and we liked looking at the famous sites. The part where the boy falls down the steps of the Lincoln memorial while looking at the Washington Monument is a bit odd, since the two are too far away for such an up close picture - I had to go back a couple of times to make sure I didn't miss something. Still, it was a fun tour of the city.
