Review # 1 was written on 2013-11-21 00:00:00 Trevor Weisgerber While there is a raging debate about whether we can call the African Americans who moved to Nova Scotia after the Revolution "Black Loyalists" this book provides an really interesting look into their lives. Walker focuses on the group that came, but did not stay, moving to be part of an experiment in Sierra Leone. Ultimately this exodus crippled the society in Nova Scotia beyond repair as many prominent men, teacher, priests, and other educated members of society, left. I really good look at an often ignored group of people. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-05-21 00:00:00 Shannon Lange Very valuable resourse for my studies on Loyalists. This segment of the large Loyalist migration is perhaps under recognized, especially by those of us not from the maritimes. The experiance of the black Loyalist was, in my opinion, harsher and more extreme, than those faced by their white counterparts. Excellent for research, good for lovers of Canadian history. |
