Review # 1 was written on 2011-01-12 00:00:00 Francesc Castell I just purchased this one (yet to arrive) - and it cost a pretty penny (so it had better be worth it). It wasn't what I expected it to be and was therefore rather disappointed. Essentially, it is about the arts, culture, etc of the latter part (ie: just prior to the fall of Acre) of the Latin Kingdom. Was looking forward to the chapter "Amazons & Crusaders" - anticipating some link with female crusaders. But no, many references to the "traditional" Amazons and scant reference to those women who undertook the Cross. Mere sentance or two on Eleanor of Aquitaine and a few more on one "Camilla". Wish I came across this in the library first. Might appeal to those interested on the "arts" side of things. |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-01-02 00:00:00 Brendan Love I really liked this book. I don't know much about medieval France, but I think this book had a lot of interesting topics from different counties. |
