Review # 1 was written on 2014-10-02 00:00:00 Peter Barrows The title is a little misleading, but this book is all about semantic technologies and semantic interoperability. Pollock and Hodgson provide one of the best overviews of the vision of semantic interoperability that I have read. The book contains a mixture of theory, architecture patterns, and capability cases. They are careful to identify the goals of semantic interoperability as a subset of the goals relating to the semantic web movement, which I think is critical for avoiding the hype of the "semantic web." The only downside is that the specific references to some of the standards is a little dated. Anyone interested in understanding how the new wave of semantic technologies will add value to your business should check this out. Also, Hodgson is one of the co-founders of TopQuadrant, one of the leading companies in the semantic space.

Review # 2 was written on 2009-04-22 00:00:00 Taimur Chaudhri I'm very glad I have found this book, and a pity I didn't noticed it any earlier (it's from 2004). Issues that I always had about interoperability and semantics now at least have been confirmed. The book itself provides for a good foundation in this matter and I'm confident the overall conceptual framework holds as model to think and work from still. Regarding its contents I really cannot say much more that already has been addressed by Mohamed Taher in his review about this book in Information Resource Management Journal, 20(1), 81-84, January-March 2007 ().
