This book should be required reading in modern US history courses in every college campus. If it can help shed light on what our Vietnam Vets went through, how they were treated after coming home, then MAYBE this country can begin to understand them for the men they truly are: brave, courageous soldiers who fought for their country and were simply doing what they were told to do. Be angry at the government that sent those boys over there, not the boys themselves. War is hell, but Vietnam was a special kind of hell, a hell that quite truthfully we never should have stepped foot in.

I had just read Mark Bowden's outstanding book on the battle of Hue, so the Vietnam War was fresh in my mind. Paul Solotaroff tells the story of what happened to many of the vets from that war, and of what some of their fellow vets did to help.
