Part of the official history series, but still a very good read. A comprehensive look at the time the Marines were running the battle of Guadalcanal. A very special offer that this book has is that it has break downs for various things to make them clearer for readers not familiar with certain aspects, to include individuals, weapons, uniforms and the like. This additions are very helpful in understanding the whole without being a distraction.

First offensive is a detailed account of the Marine's offensive during the Battle for Guadalcanal during WWII. The victory in the battle for the Allied forces is the turning point of the war. I know very little about the Pacific Theater of Operation, one that I hope to remedy. Although, I probably shouldn't have started with this book, or any specific battle, I am glad I did. This was an interesting, straightforward account of the battle.
