What makes planescape great? The combination of ideals/values/philosophies with fighting, as any good hero comic does. Instead of fighting for your country just because you were born in it, you were fighting for an idea, and the fight could define what was wrong or right in the multiverse. This book destroys all of that. It tells a story of a prime who becomes factol of the fated and decides to control sigil. He seduces another factol and gains support from another faction. He then intends to sell into slavery the seduced factol and create a major war between factions where he's going to destroy the lady of pain with a stone where a powerful mage was supposedly locked inside. This mage, years ago had turned the city into a sigil. He only needed to activate the sigil by walking through the city in a particular path and say one word to activate it but was locked away before could finish this. So where is the death to thought that I established before?: it makes no sense that a prime would become factol so fast and accomplish so many things, and still be dumb enough to decide to go after the lady of pain. It makes no sense that another factol would fall in love with him like that. A factol is practically the embodiment of the idea behind a faction. It's almost impossible for a person that is fanatical about one idea to like someone else that is fanatical about another idea. It would be like the Pope falling in love with Buddha. Then we have that the idiot Factol doesn't even know how to release the mage from the stone, isn't even sure that that would be enough to destroy the lady, and you couldn't even be sure that the stone was actually the same stone he read about in a turn piece of paper. Then there's a part in the faction war book that says that since the whole war only takes about 6 weeks there's no time for thinking/debating, the factions just war against each other without thinking as if in reflex. Bullshit! That's like someone telling you to believe in something just because it is. Without actually giving you arguments for it. Or like a bad movie that completely changes a character's personality just to justify some plot twist that he wants to happen. Planescape is all about arguing, even though with clubs. It's like pirates in a movie that to every flurry of swords have to say some florid repartee. And 6 weeks is more than enough time to people having to rest and think about "why is this happening? Is this war worth it to me?" And to most factions it isn't. Also it makes no sense for the lady of pain to let a war escalate for 6 weeks. Also, it makes no sense that a place that is so cloak and dagger and full of spies like sigil could have a high up being able to do whatever without someone finding out first. Also, just because someone wants to sell someone else into slavery, doesn't mean they get sold into slavery. A factol is a very known figure and wouldn't be sold so easily. It would be like selling a white person as a slave in a time where they were only selling black people. Everyone would be like "what is happening?". After all this BS, the story keeps going and the lady eventually stops it all by getting rid of all the factols (putting them in a maze). But the idiot Factol had actually thought of that before and had bought a wish before that if he ended up in a lady's maze, he'd automatically come out. He does, but he's 500 years before all those events and is at the entrance of the loony bin. He tries to explain how he's a factol, etc, and is taking as a lunatic. They keep forcing therapies on him for over 500 years making him a little crazy. He endured over 500 years because in the past he had done some treatments with life extenders (how convenient). Some more problems with all this: the lady taking out all the factols: sigil is on top of the spire of a plane that only exists because people believe in it. She's basically saying: don't believe in anything too strongly or you'll get wiped out, because I'm too lazy to figure out who's really to blame. That would not only lessen the belief in the whole multiverse, but it would also lower the belief of the people in the lady, and also make people that had no problem with the lady to now have a problem with her. Also, the lady doesn't do things just out of spite, and she doesn't care about the lives of people. She doesn't care about people dying, because she cares about the balance of beliefs in her city. If everyone is dying from all factions, she'd be fine with it. Also, no wish can get you out of a lady's maze. Also, if it could, wouldn't other factols have got them on them as well? Also, getting out of the maze 500 years before? The lady doesn't have those powers. Also, if he had come out 500 years ago, he wouldn't have realized? BS! Also if he didn't realize it, wouldn't he have later been able to prove that he's not crazy? Wouldn't he have carried with him something futuristic or have facts about the future that would come to be true? Wouldn't a sane person with 500 years to spare be able to come up with a plan to escape? And this is just what happens before the adventures with the PC's begin. So the PCs get to lose to be a part of major events (even if they don't make sense). Now isn't it fun when all the important stuff has already happened and you had no say in it? *Sarcasm mode off*

Always fun to come back to planescape, but this adventure wasn't that great. Very broad strokes---it didn't seem like PCs would actually understand what was going. There was not a clear purpose for their adventuring. Also the problem that the setting was discontinued so it's a cliffhanger. Parts 2/3 and 3/3 were never made.
