As a guitar player and music fanatic, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. When I started to search for a book, I was looking for a new set of influences and techniques to adapt into my own creative process. Also, I found that my form of practicing was getting to be mundane and more and more difficult to finish. This book, gave me both creative and instructive tools that have helped me to grow my playing and reach new heights with melody sections and solo's. When I originally began to read this book, I expected a pretty standard music book. Some pictures, music on staff, and perhaps some tabs to help the reader cover as much material by doing as little as work as possible. But, u[on diving deeper into the book, I was surprised at the depth and presentation of each lesson. When I began to read, I found that the information was conveyed quite well. They explained the musical science behind the solos and progressions, how to play them, what key there are in, and a step by step process on how to do them along with tablature and staff sighting. This made learning and adapting to new styles a lot easier, and really made implementing these new found skill sets into my own form of creativity and breeze. Without the formatting, I probably would have dropped this book for another one a long time ago. So, realistically, I would recommend this book to anyone who is trying to broaden their musical horizons and expand their playing capabilities. It was great for picking up new tricks, learning the science behind music, and getting a great set of techniques that can improve anyones playing, wether they're experienced or just beginning.

All things considered this is, in the end, a college textbook not something you read for pleasure. That said, this is one of the easiest text books to read and comprehend you'll find. The book uses simple language, definitions, and great examples. This book will give you all the tools needed to become a good speaker and do well in the course work which for me involved both giving speeches and taking tests. So if you're professor assigns this one stand up and cheer because unlike the rest of your textbooks it's an easy read and it's an affordable paperback.
