This was a required reading for our history class, the teacher was Hal Shelton, the author of this book. Like most I was not excited to have to read a history novel, above all a history novel at that. This is the definitive biography of General Montgomery, who goes from a British Redcoat to fighting against the Redcoats during the American Revolution. This book is not a boring book of facts and figures but a story that will pull you in and make you shed a tear in the end. I nearly read the whole book in one sitting. Highly recommended for those looking for a good read on leadership, American Generals, or interested in the American Revolution.

I've had this book on my shelf forever it seems. It was good and delved into a character of the War of Independence that I knew of but not in any detail. The book itself was short (181 pages), a chronology of Washington's life was included as an appendix and a strong bibliography. There were several discrepancies I noted regarding dates that i just think were missed in the proof reading but nothing major. My favorite quote comes from General Nathaniel Greene: During the campaign in the Carolinas, Greene once "referred to Lee as his "eye," but called he called Colonel Washington his "arm." Washington was George Washington's "second cousin, once removed." Another officer who stuck it out when others faltered, worked with a lot less than was needed and contributed mightily in engagements at Cowpens and Guilford Court House.
