Review # 1 was written on 2017-08-24 00:00:00 Hans-peter Lastovka OMG, the three things I hate the most: spiders, snakes and scorpions! This is the 2nd book in the Claire Morgan series and followed a similar style with two story lines, past and present. This book flowed a little better but still had you guessing until Ladd reveals the true killer. I am really liking Claire, her sense of humour, her sarcasm, and her general dislike and distrust of people but she also has a soft side and is extremely loyal to her friends. Her relationship with Nick is evolving into something more permanent and her previous partner Harve and her current partner Bud are her closest friends. Claire is recuperating from her last case when a man is found brutally murdered which leads to a series of missing persons and dead bodies. Ladd has a different writing style and is a master at the creep factor and even though this is one of the creepiest books I have ever read, I never wanted to stop reading. Her characters see a little more depth developed in this book and a new character, Joe, is introduced. Not sure if he is supposed to come between Claire and Nick, but let's hope not. One thought I had while reading this book was how does an author come up with these truly gruesome ways for people to die and develop these insane serial killer characters! Great job!!

Review # 2 was written on 2014-01-20 00:00:00 Wendy Fowler-conner 4.5 Stars~~~~Very compelling and creepy with unexpected twists and turns. I felt this book had a better flow and more seasoned feel than book 1. I really enjoy Claire's snarky, sarcastic, and witty banter...it's both internal and external, so you don't miss anything;) I could, personally, use more Nick and Claire, but that's a small nit pick, I guess. I'm a little concerned about a new side character, at this point. Hoping he's just thrown in for a bit of angst and not a full out triangle situation.
