Review # 1 was written on 2010-04-01 00:00:00 James Maddox Jan Silvious is a wise woman and would be a great mentor. Her book is full of good advice on how to approach various aspects of life. She includes interesting examples from scripture (Silvious worked with Kay Arthur for years) and some illustrations from her own life. That said, I didn't really connect with it personally. The tone felt a little preachy (how many times do you have to tell me what "the smart girl" would do?) and targeted to young women who haven't had the great teaching and mentoring that I've had -- women who need to be introduced to principles for wise decision-making, like how to recognize a good man, handle your money, and avoid making a mess of your life. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-08-26 00:00:00 JOSE PEREZ This book was loaned to me as a possible book for our Bible study. I has a section with discussion questions, so that would work. It was a simple study, but covered some basics of Christian living. There was practical advice and some great quotes but nothing profound. New word: awfulizing - habit of viewing just about everything that comes our way as perfectly dreadful. |
