Review # 1 was written on 2020-07-29 00:00:00 Zack Hadsall Loved this in many ways. I have a daughter who lives in NZ and have been reading NZ related books. The world view of Mr. Grey has not aged well. Not the most open minded of travelers.

Review # 2 was written on 2013-02-26 00:00:00 George Hardcastle I have to keep reminding myself that this book was a product of its time. I enjoyed it, but I didn't enjoy the sexism, racism or kill-every-fish approach to fishing. The second half, which deals with the mighty Tongariro River, is captivating and there is no denying Grey's consummate skill as a writer; his prose can be magical when he wants it to be. Well worth the read for those moments...
