Review # 1 was written on 2018-11-09 00:00:00 Laj Van Opstal This book is beautifully presented with many many interesting dishes. The pictures and stories are quite outstandingly done. However, I think some of the recipes have non-optimal ratios and cooking times. Also, some of the ingredients like for the non-vegetarian sections may not be accessible to the proletariat, but overall this is really nicely done! Draw Me A Sheep!!

Review # 2 was written on 2012-12-05 00:00:00 Reba Williams Excellent book. Goes beyond the usual Keralan fish curry that is to be found all over the internet and includes some of the traditional festive recipes from the Syrian Christian kitchen. There are lovely descriptions and photographs explaining the traditional Syrian Christian way of life--even of a time when traveling cooks dropped by to show the ladies of the house how to cook Western dishes. I can't wait to try out some like the Spicy Mussel Fry (Kallumekka Olathiathu) and the Crushed Spice Fish Curry (Arapu Chathachathe Meen Karri). Aunty's Curried Ribs (Ammai udey Varial Curry) and Mango and Rice Fruit Leather (Thera) are also some intriguingly named gems. Even if you don't manage to make all the dishes this is a great book to go through to understand a way of life which might be fast disappearing.
