Read after visiting Huntley Meadows park. Discussed the animals that we saw on our walk in the wetlands - muskrat, painted turtles, snapping turtles, blue heron, ibis, two snakes, a bird with a red stripe on his wing, and a large green frog. We looked at the pictures we took and compared them to those in the book. We talked about the differences in the appearance of the muskrat we saw and the beaver in the book. Eric and Charlotte both enjoyed this activity. We would love to find a book for the children that talks about muskrats.

This would be perfect for a second grade library- doesn't hit the target I'd hoped for early childhood. Looking for a way for young children to understand habitats, yet this wordy book becomes a collection of pictures where the teacher has some improv... need to keep looking sadly.
