I am indeed and frustratingly a bit and probably even more than a bit personally conflicted with regard to Erich Hoyt's Whale Rescue: Changing the Future for Endangered Wildlife. For in my opinion, although the author's presented narrative (which is textually dense and thus definitely more suitable for older children above at least the age of nine or so than for younger readers or listeners) certainly is interesting, educational and yes also often heartbreaking and infuriating, I personally also tend to find that albeit Erich Hoyt appreciatively never ceases to stop criticising today's (modern) commercial whaling and to also point out the myriad of threats and dangers that whales constantly must face and endure from especially entanglement from rogue and even non rogue fishing gear as well from as being struck by ships and especially oil tankers, the authorial and textual condemnation does at least to and for me often not go nearly far enough. As yes indeed (and I also do very firmly stand by this), from where I emotionally stand after having read Whale Rescue: Changing the Future for Endangered Wildlife, it does at least sometimes feel as though in particular with modern commercial whaling, Erich Hoyt seems rather too willing to be only rather mildly (even if indeed consistently) critical, and really, if he mentions in Whale Rescue: Changing the Future for Endangered Wildlife groups like Sea Shepherd and Greenpeace, Erich Hoyt should also and equally be naming as well as overtly shaming in particular Japanese, Icelandic and Norwegian whaling concerns and perhaps even openly listing their various websites in the book so readers can actually contact and verbally, textually trash and be critically condemning of them loudly and publicly (as certainly, making things uncomfortable and nasty for commercial whaling is in my opinion as important and as essential as helping and supporting whale and other cetacean conservation societies). Combined with the fact that I also do think an included bibliography with books for further study and research (and not just a list of some conservation websites) would greatly increase the teaching and learning value of this book, I cannot really consider more than two and a half stars for Whale Rescue: Changing the Future for Endangered Wildlife (but yes, rounded up to a low three stars, as I do think that Erich Hoyt has penned an educational and important text, my personal quibbles with his narrative perhaps not being hard hitting enough and there not being an included list of suggested books for further reading notwithstanding).

Whales, a magnificent example of lifećƒ¼beautiful, enormous, intelligent and highly social. Whale Rescue by Erich Hoyt tells about the endangered giants of the sea, the Whale. In my opinion, this nonfiction book is great. It tells me how important it is to take care of the endangered wildlife. Whales are champion swimmers and divers. They have a thick layer of blubber to protect from the cold. Blue Whales, which is 33.5 meters and 190,000 kilogram, is the largest animal that has ever lived. Whales live in almost every ocean. Whales travel in search of food or a safe area to raise their young. The journey can be as long as 8000 kilometers. Even though whales are great, there are many countries that kill whales for oil and meat. In Faroe Island, the sea runs red with the blood of the whales and dolphins that were killed. In all, since 1986, more than 25,000 whales have been killed through legal loopholes. Overall, I think whales are very attractive animals. They have lots of remarkable parts that are different from the other sea creatures. I recommend Whale Rescue by Erich Hoyt to the type of reader that loves to read about sea creature and some endangered animals.
