Review # 1 was written on 2015-05-11 00:00:00 Robin Brown I learned a few things, but not nearly as much as i wanted. Stylistically, I'm not fond of the examples. Matter of taste, i guess. |
Review # 2 was written on 2011-09-19 00:00:00 Amanda Barber I don't ordinarily read Handbook style art instruction books, but I was curious to see what an author might fit into 50 pages. I was pleasantly surprised. This is a actually decent overview of oil painting, with better process photos than pricier texts. The author begins with a few good exercises, and background information on tools, then moves into process and design. I don't believe this is a good book for beginning painters. Important information on lighting and form is missing, and the author does not touch on figure painting. However, if you have a year or two of painting under your belt, this is a wonderful reference for learning more about the painting process and techniques. |
