Review # 2 was written on 2012-05-20 00:00:00 Deborah Calhoun This was used as the primary textbook for a course in the Operational Models of Healthcare at the University of Texas. All told... a good walk-through of the healthcare system in the USA. It was very insightful to match my experience as a consumer of healthcare with the all the complexities of the industry which accounts for nearly 20% of US GDP. The book does a good job to highlight all the current and future challenges of healthcare cost, quality, and access. On the negative side... it was extremely repetitive. The same concepts were drilled over and over. The page count could easily be reduced from 650ish to 400ish. The authors also presented a very nationalistic healthcare solutions approach, constantly comparing US to other developed countries in Europe (w/o highlighting the difficulties those national programs also face). I would have liked to see various alternatives presented - less hidden politics. I learned a bunch so had to keeping it at 3 star rating. |
